Just as much as the pictures, I feel you've gotten a very strong hand on the LETTERING aspect, breaking it up into the right visual and narrative beats to draw the eye and pull the reader along.
Thanks, George. I record an interview with each subject, then transcribe, edit and break down by panel. So, the words all belong to the individual subjects, and I make 'em into comics.
As always, your superior skill set when it comes to photographing 'real life' folks impresses - and it feels like a completely natural concoction when mixed with the comic book format & style, making for a visually delicious appetizer. Hope to see more of these soon. Nice work, SK :)
This is really great Seth! I guess I was biased against photocomics because it surprised me how much I enjoyed it. Obviously your photos are amazing but I agree with everyone else; it's broken down very well.
Thanks, Nathan. I agree with you, I never like photo comics either, but I thought I might be able to do it differently. Glad everyone's enjoying my efforts.
hey- i really liked this. the colors are brilliant, and really push a mood that i think you're trying to accomplish. i think the text placement is on key, but i don't think the font is the best choice. this is such an intimate piece- i think a subtle overlay of the girl's actual handwriting would do better than the clunky boxes. right now, it feels a little too 1980's superhero comic. looking forward to more installments-
Thanks for the kind words. You bring up a point about the font which has been discussed already. The idea of handwritten text is a good one in theory, but the problem would surely be readability. How many of the subjects might have good penmanship? There is a reason that hand lettering is considered an art.
